The UNC women’s basketball team will reportedly join an elite field of programs at the 2024 Women’s Battle 4 Atlantis in the Bahamas, to be played from November 23 through November 25. It’s the first time the women’s program will participate in the event.
According to the tournament website, Carolina will be joined in the tournament by Ball State, Baylor, Columbia, Indiana, Southern Mississippi, Texas A&M and Villanova. The Tar Heels are one of three teams in the field to have won a national championship (Baylor and Texas A&M are the others). The first-round pairings have yet to be announced.
Though UNC is listed as a participant, the program could not confirm to Chapelboro its inclusion in the event.
Carolina will return multiple contributors from last season’s team, including All-ACC wing Alyssa Ustby and starters Lexi Donarski, Maria Gakdeng and Reniya Kelly. Incoming freshmen Lanie Grant, Jordan Zubich and Blanca Thomas will join transfers Trayanna Crisp from Arizona State and Grace Townsend from Richmond in filling out head coach Courtney Banghart’s roster.
